Reagent alcohol 100% (200 proof) is a denatured form of ethyl alcohol, sanctioned for sale under U.S. regulations. It consists of 90 parts ethyl alcohol, 5 parts methyl alcohol, and 5 parts isopropyl alcohol. Ethanol, a primary alcohol, serves as a crucial raw material for synthesizing various compounds. It can be produced from molasses via fermentation or through the hydration of ethylene. Ethanol acts as a hydrogen source and reaction medium during the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in the presence of sodium hydroxide. Studies have investigated the impact of ethanol or water fumigation on the performance of diesel engines. Reagent alcohol 100% is also known as Denatured ethanol and ethyl alcohol 100%.
